The Mighty Amazon - Where life flows with the water
The Amazon Rainforest contains the largest area of tropical forest in the world, covering around 6 million sq. kilometers (2.3 million sq. miles) in 9 different countries, 60 % in Brazil.
Biologically, it is the richest and most diverse region in the world containing about 20 % of all higher plant species, perhaps the same proportion of bird species and around 10 % of the world's mammals.

Mamirauá Reserve - Unique experience inside the Amazon
The Mamirauá Project is located 600 km (373mi.) west of Manaus, in the State of Amazonas, the heart of the Amazon Rainforest. The Mamirauá Sustainable Development Reserve is the largest (1,124,000 ha) Brazilian protected area conserving flooded forest ecosystems, and the only operational area conserving the "várzea" flooded forest. This area is important not only because of its unique biodiversity and endemism, but also because it is the first Brazilian conservation unit designed to integrate the preservation of internationally significant biodiversity resources, fragile habitats, sustainable resource management and participatory management with traditional communities.

Our Naturalist Guides
Regina Ribeiro
Regina, a native of Brazil, has undertaken extensive studies in biology, conservation, environmental education and wildlife management. She has published records of her sightings, taught natural history interpretation and undertaken photographic research on the maned sloth. Regina has been guiding visitors to Brazil's natural regions for more than a decade, and brings wonderful enthusiasm to her work. She has also lived in New York, and speaks English and Spanish fluently. Regina now lives in Belo Horizonte, the third largest city in Brazil.
Fred Tavares
Fred Tavares has completed extensive study in biology, the primates of Brazil and the ecology of the Pantanal region, and holds a degree from Izabela Hendrix University in Belo Horizonte, Brazil. He has been a mountaineering and naturalist guide since 1999, with particular emphasis on the Pantanal, along with Brazil’s rainforest and savanna areas. Fred is known as a leading instructor on natural history guiding and interpretation techniques, and has taught many courses on those subjects. He possesses an enormous enthusiasm for his work to go with his vast knowledge.
Fernanda Melo
Enjoying all aspects of nature from fungus to mammals, Fernanda Melo is a Brazilian biologist whose past includes working on a bird-banding project in the Cerrado region. With training in both wildlife watching and guiding techniques, she started guiding in the Pantanal region seven years ago, and has also coordinated the local guides team. An enthusiastic birdwatcher, Fernanda has traveled throughout South America and has a passion for bird songs. At the University of South Mato Grosso she studied biology with a focus in ornithology specializing in birds of the Brazilian Savannah.
Cassiano Zaparoli
Zapa has worked in the Pantanal as a natural history and bird watching guide for 5 years. He discovered his passion for bird photography when as a co-guide of a group he found and photographed the beautiful Spectacled Owl, which the group was dying to see. After that he invested in photography equipment and has developed into one of the best wildlife photographers and naturalist guides in Brazil. In his spare time, he enjoys trying to capture photos of rare birds that have not been photographed yet in the Pantanal and Cerrado regions.

Cupuaçu Drink
The Cupuaçu is a type of fruit tree which grows wild in the the Amazon Rainforest
Ingredients:
50 ml of cupuaçu juice
25 ml of cachaça
a splash of Nestlé or Parmalat Table Cream
2 ice cubes, crushed
Methods:
Shake and pour.The table cream, which is considerably thicker than what we call heavy cream, can be found in most supermarkets.Frozen soursop (called guanábana in Spanish) can be found in the Latino or Ethnic section of your supermarket. Frozen cupuaçu pulp can be found in Brazilian markets around the world.
